Kenya Gathinja Murang'a
Delicately sweet, with raspberry and blueberry notes, rounded by sugarcane sweetness and a juicy, vibrant acidity.
This lot comes from Gathinja Factory, part of the Kahuhia Farmers’ Cooperative Society, founded in 1959. Situated at 1,650–1,700 m, the region’s cool climate and red volcanic soils provide ideal conditions for exceptional coffee.
Over 700 smallholder members, each cultivating about 200 trees, handpick and deliver ripe cherries to the factory the same day. After careful sorting, cherries are fully washed, fermented for 12–18 hours, and dried slowly on raised beds for 7–15 days.
This is a peaberry lot—a natural mutation where only one small, rounder, denser bean forms inside the cherry. Peaberries make up around 5% of coffee production and are prized for their uniform roast and, when handled well, their sweet, vibrant flavour profile.
The cooperative’s commitment to meticulous processing and sustainable cultivation ensures both quality in the cup and a positive impact on farmer livelihoods.
