What Makes Coffee 'Specialty Grade'?
Specialty coffee is coffee that scores 80 or above on the Specialty Coffee Association's 100-point grading scale. Less than 5% of global coffee production ever reaches that standard, which means every bag that earns the grade is genuinely exceptional.
To qualify, every bean has to be fully traceable, to a specific farm, cooperative, region, and producer. No anonymous blending, no mystery origins. You know exactly where your coffee came from and how it was processed. That traceability isn't a nice-to-have. That's the whole point.
At The Bean Cartel, we take it further. Every coffee in our range is origin roasted, each component roasted separately, dialled in for its own characteristics, then post blended for the final cup. Most roasters skip this step because it takes longer and costs more. We consider it non-negotiable.

Behind every award is Dr Alan Chan, our master roaster with over 18 years experience in specialty coffee and almost 30 years in hospitality. Alan travels to origin, builds direct relationships with farmers, and makes sourcing decisions most roasters don't even know to consider.
